Alansan Martin, who died at his home in Weller Twp., at 9:30 a.m. Friday, was buried at Shenandoah Friday and funeral services were held there as well as at the house.  Those who were present at the funeral from abroad were:  Mrs. S.W. Sonnanstine and son, Wilson, of Cleveland, O.F. Cline and wife of Bloomville, Ernest Tulloss and wife of Utica, Selby C. Cole and wife of Cleveland, and H.L. Nelson and wife of Plymouth.

Alanson Martin was born May 5, 1805, in Jefferson County, this state.  In 1828 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Ebersole, and six children are the result of the union as follows:  C.E. Martin and Jesse Martin of Weller Twp., T.B. Martin of this city, Mrs. B.F. Cline of three miles east of Shelby, Mrs. Emily Stewart of near Olivesburg, and Mrs. E.M. Runyon who resided with the deceased.  Mr. and Mrs. Runyon have resided with the deceased and have taken care of him since the death of Mrs. Martin in 1888.

Mr. & Mrs. Martin came to this county from Jefferson County in 1854 and purchased the Ashton Farm, one mile west of the county Infirmary, where they resided until death claimed them.  They resided together as man and wife for 60 years and intended having a golden wedding on the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage but were compelled to abandon the idea on account of a death in the family.

The deceased united with Disciple church in Jefferson County and upon his arrival here, transferred his membership to the Disciple Church in this city.  Some years after he was instrumental in having a Disciple church established in Shenandoah and has assisted in its maintenance ever since.  He was a consistent Christian and did much good among his associates although he never thrust his opinions upon anyone.  Rev. G.M. Kemp of this city preached his funeral sermon according to a request made by the deceased some time before his death.

The deceased was very regular in his habits and his 92 years of hale, hearty and vigorous life show the results of this.
